7 Quick Takes Friday

I have several BIG things to tell you--each one worthy of at least a post or two all by itself. However, these big things are so big that they prevent me from having time to write about them. Quite a conundrum, no?

So I'm joining in "7 Quick Takes Friday" over at Conversion Diary, and I'll try to give you some of the headlines around here. (Don't laugh--these really are big things--after re-reading this post I can't believe that all this is actually going on simultaneously in my life!)

Bill's job is almost certain to be eliminated in the next month or so. (See what I mean--these things are BIG!) His product line is, um, losing a boatload of money, and he describes his work right now as "arranging deck chairs on the Titanic." What next? Only God knows--and so far, He's not telling.

For a couple of months now, we have had our eye on a new house that we both really love. I WANT THIS HOUSE SO BAD--uh, I mean, I've been praying that it's God's will for us to have the new house. It is just a couple of miles away, and just the absolute perfect house for us in every way. Of course, #1 above has put the brakes on this particular plan in a big way.

We are remodeling our kitchen. We started this project in order to put our house on the market for #2 above, but now I guess we are just remodeling our kitchen. It is going to look so much better, I can't believe we didn't do this years ago! I am so excited about it! Bill has been doing all the hard stuff--running around ordering stuff, scheduling everything, picking out appliances, and I've, uh, picked up some really pretty new dish towels. Remodeling in order to sell our house is so freeing compared to remodeling for ourselves, because making all the selections is MUCH easier. For example, I just really don't much care what kitchen faucet we get--just whatever looks good, and anything would be better than the one we have now. No doubt, if we weren't hoping to move I would over-analyze these decisions.

My worst nightmare has come true this week. Three of the kids have somehow gotten the dreaded scourge--head lice. Everything you've ever heard about how horrible it is to have this, especially with lots of kids, is totally true. This post was certainly a timely one for me! Honestly, I am amazed at God's loving grace that has gotten me through this week. I have done nothing but laundry, laundry, laundry, and "nit-picking" has a whole new literal meaning for me now!

Being home so much with the kids this week has made me realize how much I miss homeschooling. That being said, I have signed the oldest 4 up for school next year (JPD only 2 or maybe 3 days a week). Just as I expected, we have two good choices, and the challenge is to look at the whole picture and prayerfully discern the best, as opposed to the good, path. And I do think this sweet little school has got to be the best-kept secret in our diocese. I miss the kids, I love homeschooling, I don't think we're altogether finished with it yet, but still I think that for now, this is the best path. (Actually I must clarify that right now I am thinking that KLD will stay home for 2nd grade--she really wants to, and that's good enough reason in my book at her age--but we're registered for school right now, as we decide for sure.)

Five years ago this month, we bought our house! This is now officially the longest I have ever lived in one house, ever. And the five happiest years of my life, I think! I wonder where we'll be after the next five years...

I have recently read the Flylady's book. I can't recommend it highly enough. My Lenten house-tidying resolutions, my quest to focus on the house while the kids are in school (really the whole reason the kids are in school--now there's a story), the inspiration of my lovely friend Katrissa for whom home organization is actually a fun hobby, and a few other minor factors have all combined to make me think that I am at a major turning point with regard to this whole home-organization-and-order thing. Would it be totally immature for me to say that I just HATE it when my husband is right? :)
