Today we all attended our first-ever real-live rally.

The directors of a surgical clinic that is affiliated with a couple of the major hospitals in the city near our home is considering whether to offer second-trimester abortions. They'll be voting on it this week, so our 40-days-for-Life group organized a rally today.

"Everyone's going," I told Bill. "All the cool people will be there." Never mind that he actually thought I was serious about wanting to go just to see my friends at first!! But anyway, a BIG thanks to my wonderful husband for taking us all downtown, so we all went--apparently the hospital's decision really can be swayed by public opinion on this one, and a big turnout was critical. God even blessed the event with really good weather too!

It was very nice and upbeat; there was a big turnout--about 3000 people, they say, although I'm a terrible judge of numbers and I was just trying to keep my whole gang together. Almost all the signs and banners I saw were positive--they specifically asked that no one bring grisly photos because they were encouraging families to attend--and there were bunches of pink and blue balloons.

We didn't see any counter-demonstrators at the rally (I find it hard to imagine anyone actually protesting FOR abortion, but there were a few), but afterwards, we drove by the actual clinic and there they were. It was a small group of rather pathetic looking weirdos (okay, okay--sorry about that) I mean, students, I guess, with a few signs about how abortion is a civil right (huh?) and stuff.

The most amazing thing, though, I heard about after the fact from a priest friend who attended: The pro-abortion people were chanting, not something related to abortion, but the following thing:

"Pray, you'll need it;
Your cross will be defeated."

Can there be any clearer evidence that the Evil One is behind the lie of abortion?

Among the most important titles we have in the Catholic Church for the Blessed Virgin Mary are Our Lady of Victory and Our Lady of the Rosary. These titles can be traced back to one of the most decisive times in the history of the world and Christendom. The Battle of Lepanto took place on October 7 (date of feast of Our Lady of Rosary), 1571. This proved to be the most crucial battle for the Christian forces against the radical Muslim navy of Turkey. Pope Pius V led a procession around St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City praying the Rosary. He showed true pastoral leadership in recognizing the danger posed to Christendom by the radical Muslim forces, and in using the means necessary to defeat it. Spiritual battles require spiritual weapons, and this more than anything was a battle that had its origins in the spiritual order—a true battle between good and evil.

Today we have a similar spiritual battle in progress—a battle between the forces of good and evil, light and darkness, truth and lies, life and death. If we do not soon stop the genocide of abortion in the United States, we shall run the course of all those that prove by their actions that they are enemies of God—total collapse, economic, social, and national. The moral demise of a nation results in the ultimate demise of a nation. God is not a disinterested spectator to the affairs of man.

Life begins at conception. This is an unalterable formal teaching of the Catholic Church. If you do not accept this you are a heretic in plain English. A single abortion is homicide. The more than 48,000,000 abortions since Roe v. Wade in the United States constitute genocide by definition. The group singled out for death—unwanted, unborn children.

No other issue, not all other issues taken together, can constitute a proportionate reason for voting for candidates that intend to preserve and defend this holocaust of innocent human life that is abortion.

I strongly urge every one of you to make a Novena and pray the Rosary to Our Lady of Victory between October 27th and Election Day, November 4th. Pray that God’s will be done and the most innocent and utterly vulnerable of our brothers and sisters will be protected from this barbaric and grossly sinful blight on society that is abortion. No woman, and no man, has the right to choose to murder an innocent human being.

May God grant us the wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and counsel to form our conscience in accordance with authentic Catholic teaching, and then vote that well‐formed Catholic conscience.

"This Time, Roe v. Wade Could Hang in the Balance"

As I've mentioned once or twice, for me, there is only one issue in this election.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Through most of the 1990s and until recently, the Supreme Court had a solid 6-3 majority in favor of upholding the right of a woman to choose abortion. But the margin has shrunk to one, now that Justice Sandra Day O’Connor is retired and has been replaced by Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.

And Justice John Paul Stevens, a leader of the narrow majority for abortion rights, is 88.

“Clearly, Roe is on the line this time,” said Indiana University law professor Dawn Johnsen, a former lawyer for NARAL Pro-Choice America. “It is quite clear they have four votes against it. If the next president appoints one more, the odds are it will be overruled.”

"...upholding the right of a woman to choose abortion"--or, to spin this the other way, "denying an unborn infant’s right to life.” Right?

In spite of the typical (and abhorrent) media slant, the basic premise of the article is correct - this election will be consequential for this issue. The next president may appoint up to three judges - all replaced from the liberal side of the court. This would change everything.

Anyone who votes for Barack Obama is explicitly voting for a continuation of the legalization of the greatest holocaust we have ever witnessed. If Barack Hussein Obama is elected president, not only will he sign the horrible Freedom Of Choice Act - which wipes away every restriction on abortion, he will guarantee a pro-abortion supreme court for another generation. This will make America more friendly to the abortion industry than any other nation in the world. And that's not to mention his repeated voting to deny life-saving care to infants already born alive during botched abortions.

It is estimated that well over 45 million abortions have taken place in the 35 years since Roe v. Wade. Right now in America, every fourth baby conceived will have his or her life deliberately destroyed. That's 3,500 babies per day, and almost 1.5 million per year. Truly, this is a holocaust. It is especially staggering in the face of the scientific evidence that we now have about when life begins; from ultrasounds, doppler scans, and other evidence, we KNOW that a newly conceived baby is not just a blob of cells. She's alive--a precious, unique, human baby, with special gifts to bring to our world.

Consider, too, the impact that abortion has had on minority populations in our country. Since Roe v. Wade, the number one cause of death in the Aftrican American community is abortion...over 13 million lives. To put that into perspective, that is one third of our present Black population. Abortion has also greatly impacted the Hispanic community in our country.

When I was in college, learning about the atrocities of the WWII Holocaust, I was shocked and horrified that no one in my country did anything much to help the innocent victims. Abortion in our country is the same shocking, horrifying thing. Millions of innocent children being killed each year in America is more important than the economy, the war, healthcare, immigration, energy independence, global warming, and everything else combined.

One hundred and fifty years ago, our country was divided on the issue of slavery. Many individuals, including some Catholics, thought states should have the "right to choose" if they wanted slavery in their state. The courage it took to reverse that tragedy is miniscule compared to what we need to do today.

"Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or sovereign. The Constitutional Court of the Federal Republic of Germany recently ruled: 'The unborn child is entitled to its right to life independently of its acceptance by its mother; this is an elementary and inalienable right which emanates from the dignity of the human being.'

Babies for McCain/Palin

An Obama-Biden presidency would take abortion to a whole new level.
Surely you're familiar with this issue of Obama repeatedly voting to deny lifesaving care to infants born alive following botched abortion attempts. This whole issue makes me feel physically ill to even think about. Today I received the following article from the Wisconsin Right to Life PAC.

Barack Obama is so desperate to continue the cover-up of his four votes as an Illinois State Senator to deny lifesaving treatment to babies who survive abortions that he is airing an ad attacking Gianna Jessen. Gianna survived a late-term abortion 31 years ago and appears in her own ad questioning why Obama would deny treatment to babies like her.

The issue is clearly getting under Obama's skin because anyone who talks about it is branded a liar. His ad indignantly proclaims, "Obama's always supported medical care to protect infants." Really? There are four recorded votes in the Illinois Senate of Obama voting against legislation to provide lifesaving treatment for abortion survivors.

Obama even spoke against one of the measures on the Illinois Senate floor, essentially saying that "pre-viable" babies who survive abortions do not deserve care. In other words, if a woman wants a dead baby, we should preserve her "right" to one, even if the baby is alive and breathing and fully separated from her.

Obama has become completely unglued over the discovery of committee votes by the National Right to Life Committee which indisputably prove that as the chair of an Illinois Senate committee, he voted for language to make the Illinois bill before his committee virtually identical to the federal law which was approved unanimously by the U.S. Congress. Obama then voted against the amended bill. He continues to weakly claim that he would have voted for a bill that was the same as the federal one, given the chance.

Even FactCheck.com has looked at the evidence and concluded that Obama is not telling the truth about his committee vote.

In an interview with LifeNews.com, Gianna Jessen said, "Obama is clearly blinded by political ambition given his attack on me this week. All I asked of him was to do the right thing: support medical care and protection for babies who survive abortion - as I did 31 years ago. In the words of his own false and misleading ad, his position is downright vile."

Consider this ironic supposition. Given what has been made public about Barack Obama's childhood, one has to wonder: If abortion had been legal in 1961, would his mother have carried him to term? Surely he's thought of that. I can't believe he is so determined for babies to die!

Why I'm Voting for McCain/Palin

...or maybe I should say "Why I'm Voting for McCain: Palin"!

All kidding aside, I'm interrupting my normal blogging to bring you a brief peek into my political views. The stakes are too high to leave this one alone.
Here's Why:

Pro-choice? Try this one. If, like me, you believe that life begins at conception, then it turns out that around 3,000 Americans die each day from abortion. The whole Iraq war kinda pales in comparison, no? And the economy? No offense, but compared to the abortion holocaust, who cares?
